The Government of Ireland operates under the Constitution of Ireland (Bunreacht na hÉireann). The executive authority of the State is exercised by the Government, which consists of the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste, and Ministers appointed by the President on the nomination of the Taoiseach with the approval of Dáil Éireann.
The Government is collectively responsible to Dáil Éireann for its conduct and policies. Ministers head various departments of state and are accountable to the Oireachtas for their departments' actions and decisions.
