The Electoral Commission confirmed today that MRBRUCEISMAY22 has been elected Leader of the Labour Party, concluding a leadership race that began with the resignation of former leader AndrewEHarris earlier this week. The Labour Senator will now guide the party through two critical electoral contests in December 2025.
MRBRUCEISMAY22 becomes Labour's new leader at a pivotal moment in Irish politics, with both the Presidential Election and General Election scheduled for later this month. The party, which currently holds limited representation in the Dáil, will look to rebuild under his leadership.
New Leader's Statement
In a formal statement released following his election, MRBRUCEISMAY22 emphasized his commitment to party rebuilding and his determination to work collaboratively with all parties to improve Ireland's governance. The new leader also addressed recent political tensions, particularly regarding his experiences with the National Security Threat designation controversy.
Statement from MRBRUCEISMAY22, Leader of the Labour Party
RE: New Party Leader Statement
To whom it may concern,
I am honoured to accept the confidence and trust of my colleagues in assuming the highest office within our party. I thank each member who supported my decision to run. I believe that Ireland deserves stronger, steadier leadership than what we have endured in recent months. I also want to thank Andrew Rensburg for his amazing work of rebuilding the party and I will forever be grateful for his support and encouragement!
In the coming days the dáil will dissolve and we will have a General election! We have seen these past weeks and months how the taoiseach has dragged this country into a war, trying to silence me with false allegations for her own political gain, forcing Dan to resign from RTÉ due to unfounded allegations of bias against the government!
When the Brits invaded I joined our armed services to defend our nation and took part in the Christmas rising commemorations. What did the taoiseach do? Constantly changing her mind whether we desire peace or war! My position is clear. I will work with our diplomatic allies to find a sustainable peace agreement with the United Kingdom. The Taoiseach has promised protecting the pride then actually signing! Let me be clear, any agreement must include a formal apology by the British government for invading our country first only then can productive peace negotiations commence. And if the Brits want a fight, rest assured I will defend Ireland with my life as I have done from the frontlines since this crisis began!
But as we all prepare for the upcoming election, I know that I will present a left wing alternative to the corrupt SF who silence their own opponents! I want to work with every party to achieve greater bipartisanship in the dáil because we are there to serve not to play party politics! I want to serve Ireland; I have served in our armed forces I have served in the Seanad let me serve you once again as Taoiseach to clean up SF mess
But I make this pledge to the people that I will show up to the dáil and do the job on which I was elected to do. I will work with every party to make Ireland better for new and old players. I also promise to be transparent with the public during my tenure as Leader. I cannot promise I will get everything right but I promise to try my best for the Irish People and I hope you will give me and Labour the chance to prove ourselves in the next government. Go raibh míle maith agat

MRBRUCEISMAY22
Leader of the Labour Party
RTÉ Exclusive: New Leader's Vision
In an exclusive statement to RTÉ News, MRBRUCEISMAY22 elaborated on his priorities and coalition stance:
"I am truley honoured to be elected leader and rest assured I am gonna show and do the hard work and roll up my sleeves to continue to rebuild the labour party. And I will not coaltion at all with SF. I believe SF have caused this war which I predicted in the last election and they have tried to put me on the NST without actual evidence and I will fight for government accountability."
The statement marks a clear opposition stance toward the current Sinn Féin-Fianna Fáil coalition government and signals Labour's intention to position itself as an alternative for voters dissatisfied with the current administration.
Political Context and Challenges
MRBRUCEISMAY22 inherits a party with limited Dáil representation but an active Seanad presence. His election comes at a time of political turbulence, with public confidence in the government facing challenges according to recent RTÉ polling data.
The new leader referenced several controversies in his statement, including:
- The National Security Threat designation controversy, in which he was previously designated without, as he argues, adequate evidence
- Ongoing tensions with the United Kingdom following military incidents
- The resignation of RTÉ personnel amid allegations of government bias
- Public concerns about government accountability and transparency
His emphasis on diplomatic solutions to international tensions while maintaining a strong defense posture reflects Labour's traditional commitment to both peace and national security.
The Road Ahead: December Elections
MRBRUCEISMAY22 will immediately face the challenge of leading Labour through two significant elections:
- Presidential Election (12 December 2025): Labour will need to determine its position on the three-way presidential race
- General Election (20 December 2025): The party will seek to expand its Dáil representation and potentially position itself for coalition negotiations
His categorical rejection of coalition with Sinn Féin could prove significant in post-election negotiations, potentially opening pathways for alternative coalition arrangements depending on election results.
What's Next
As the Dáil prepares to dissolve for the General Election, MRBRUCEISMAY22 faces the immediate task of finalizing Labour's electoral strategy and candidate selections. The party will need to articulate its vision for government and distinguish itself from both the current coalition and other opposition parties.
With his pledge to "clean up SF mess" and commitment to transparent governance, the new Labour leader has set an ambitious agenda. Whether this message resonates with voters will be determined at the ballot box in the coming weeks.
The December elections will serve as the first major test of MRBRUCEISMAY22's leadership and Labour's renewed direction under his guidance.
