The Standards in Public Office Commission has released the report of its investigation into Garda Commissioner AndrewEHarris, with Chairman JeremyOMeadhra presenting the findings at a press conference in Tithe an Rialtas.

SiPOC found that the Commissioner, who was drawn into controversy following his dismissal of Chief Superintendent SHADOWDUDE_0PS earlier this week, contravened Section 5 of the Civil Service Act, 2023. The Commission said this should be considered grounds for dismissal under the Act.

The report also identified failings in Commissioner Harris' prior demotion of SHADOWDUDE_0PS from Deputy Commissioner and recommended that he be reinstated to that rank.

"While no corruption was identified, the Commission finds the conduct in question to be unbecoming of public office."

"Any renewed investigation into SHADOWDUDE_0PS should proceed without involvement from Commissioner Harris."

"Standard Operating Procedures must now be developed for Garda investigations and interviews."

SiPOC further concluded that the prior investigation into SHADOWDUDE_0PS should be nullified. In its closing remarks, the Commission stated that Harris had "engaged in behaviour seen to use his position to push personal narratives and grievances."

It remains to be seen how the Government will respond to the report, or whether Commissioner Harris will soon tender his resignation. RTÉ will continue to keep the public informed as this story develops.
