AndrewEHarris has resigned as Commissioner of An Garda Siochana following the release of the SiPOC investigation into his actions surrounding his handling of the investigation, and subsequent dismissal, of SHADOWDUDE_0PS as Chief Superintendent.
The now-former Commissioner had been appointed to the office on 14 March following the resignation of clickb8mym8. Harris previously served as Garda Commissioner from October 2024 to October 2025.
Harris released a statement yesterday evening revealing that he had been asked to resign following a meeting with the Taoiseach and had subsequently agreed to do so.
"Serving as Commissioner was the privilege of my career."
"I remain confident in the integrity of my actions."
The now-former Garda chief said that while he remained confident in his own conduct, he believed it was necessary to stand aside in order to maintain public confidence and trust.
The former Commissioner closed his statement by thanking his staff and the public for their continued support, and named adyans_alt as his preferred successor.
An Al Jazeera investigation revealed that adyans_alt is currently serving in the British Armed Forces as a member of the Royal Air Force, claiming that he was terminated from Oglaigh na hEireann after being given the choice between discharging from Oglaigh or the British Armed Forces.
As of the time of writing, no new Commissioner has been named. RTÉ will keep the public updated as this story progresses.
