The Heritage National Convention ended in disarray Wednesday night, culminating in the suspension of Senator Maxabillian's presidential campaign and a subsequent vote by the Heritage National Committee to endorse independent candidate RaymondPritzker and his running mate, Senate Majority Leader JCFederal.
Shaw Breaks First
In the final minutes of the convention, Senator Lucas Shaw — who had been asked to serve as Maxabillian's running mate before the position was later filled — released a statement announcing he had voted at the convention to endorse Pritzker and JCFederal for President and Vice President.
In his statement, Shaw detailed a chaotic sequence of events surrounding his own role on the ticket. According to Shaw, Maxabillian asked him at the beginning of July to serve as his running mate, which he accepted, only for Maxabillian to inform him the following day that he was suspending his campaign for personal reasons. When Maxabillian later moved to restart his campaign, Shaw said he advised him to instead focus on his Senate race, a recommendation Maxabillian did not take.
Shaw was sharply critical of how the convention itself was run, describing Maxabillian's second presidential run as "rushed" and stating that the National Committee had only finalized the convention's location and schedule the previous week. Shaw further alleged that Maxabillian appointed himself chair of what he called an "effectively one person planning committee," and that the speaking order for the convention was decided in a group chat created just 10 minutes before the event began.
Shaw concluded by joining JCFederal in calling for Maxabillian's resignation from the National Committee, stating plainly: "It is clear to be the Senator Maxabillian as the Chairman of the National Committee has failed his party."
Separately, in General Chat, both Shaw and JCFederal accused Maxabillian of forcing the Heritage Party to endorse his candidacy, an objection they say they raised during the convention itself.
An Outside Perspective
RTÉ reached out to khmsily, Vice President and Vice Chair of the Progress Party, for an outside assessment of how the convention unfolded. He did not hold back:
"You could tell it was really badly planned and that was affirmed by hnc members saying they planned it 10 minutes before. They had speakers come up with no speech prepared who were mumbling, it was just embarrassing. Worst of all, they had a turnout of 10 people at most and then it just dropped to 6, compared to progress which had 23 or more throughout. Then they just declared max nominee automatically like what, no roll call vote or anything, and so HNC members tried to object to the convention adjourning to demand a roll call vote which was ignored."
Maxabillian Suspends His Campaign
Shortly after Shaw's statement, Maxabillian released his own announcement, confirming he had told his team of his intention to "immediately suspend" his candidacy for President.
Maxabillian thanked his supporters for their commitment "from day one," and acknowledged that the decision did not come easily. He pointed to the fallout from the FEC's disqualification of his running mate, domesti_c, saying the episode made clear that "the system doesn't want us to win." He confirmed he would continue serving out his term as Senator from Texas, said he remained "deeply optimistic" about the country's future, and wished the remaining candidates in the race luck.
Heritage Party Pivots to Pritzker
Moments after Maxabillian's suspension statement, the Heritage National Committee voted to formally endorse RaymondPritzker and JCFederal as the party's choice for President and Vice President.
According to RTÉ sources, Representative WadgerBadger is believed to have cast the deciding vote on the Committee in favor of the endorsement.
The rapid sequence of events — Shaw's break from the campaign, Maxabillian's suspension, and the HNC's swift pivot to Pritzker — caps a turbulent stretch for the Heritage Party, coming just days after the FEC's disqualification of domesti_c and Pritzker's unresolved spying allegations against members of the Maxabillian campaign.
